 Puma Opusunju’s Artistic Alchemy: The Transformative Power Of Passion and Pigments.

"God Himself is an artist," I said to myself as I marveled at Puma Opusunju's first major artwork when he submitted it for an art competition in 2021. Having improved his expertise and mastered his craft in the field of art, from the sketch of excellence to the strokes of talent, this artist wields the power to breathe life into any painting he touches. He can turn an ordinary idea into an outstanding masterpiece that will stand the test of time.

Introduction: 


From a young age, Puma Opusunju's passion for drawing and creating art was evident, starting with cartoons and comics. However, as he grew up, he often felt like he didn't have anything special to contribute to the world. He constantly doubted himself and struggled to find his voice. But deep down, he knew he had a burning desire to make a meaningful impact on his generation.


Self-Taught and Passionate:


Puma's artistic journey took an exciting turn in 2018 when he discovered the mesmerizing hyper-realistic works of Nigerian artist Arinze Stanley. Since then, Puma dedicated himself to mastering the art of realistic drawings, driven by his love for intricate details. Without any formal training, Puma's artistic skills have flourished through a combination of art books, online resources, and the support of family and friends. YouTube channels became a valuable source of knowledge and inspiration, allowing Puma to develop his techniques and explore new artistic horizons. His dedication and passion for art pushed him to continuously improve and refine his craft.

Puma's art is a reflection of his deep connection to the human experience and its interaction with the surrounding ecosystem. Inspired by stories and the beauty found in others, Puma's creations often carry dual meanings. Each piece holds a personal significance for the artist while also inviting viewers to contemplate the broader societal implications embedded within the artwork. According to the artist, one of his most meaningful creations is titled ‘In Love With My Future’. When he brought this piece to life, he was embracing the literal meaning behind it. He says “Though I don't know what lies ahead, I trust the process, and I firmly believe that great things are waiting for me. This artwork symbolizes my unwavering faith in the journey and the excitement of what's to come”. To crown the completion of the piece, his art ‘In Love with My Future’ won 6th place in the oil category out of 2,000+ artworks submitted from around 72 countries in the 2023 American Art Awards, acclaiming him one of the world's best oil painters as judged by 20 of America's most revered art galleries/museums. He is ever grateful to God!

With talent and hard work, Puma's art has begun to garner recognition in the artistic community. In the year 2021, after being encouraged by his friend Ikechukwu Emmanuel, Puma took a leap of faith to enter his first-ever competition organized by the talented Nigerian musician, King Perry. It was an online showcase of talents. Amongst talented singers, dancers, and various creatives, the audience response to his art was overwhelming, impressing even King Perry himself. He emerged one of the winners, despite being the last one posted. For him, that was a moment of validation of his potential. In that same year, he also won the grand prize winner and first runner-up in two other competitions organized by 9ja Art Face Off, Celebrity Portrait Challenge. His unique style and thought-provoking concepts have captivated audiences, attracting admirers from near and far, earning him well-deserved acclaim. Puma's dedication to his craft and commitment to continuous growth have paved the way for a promising artistic career. Puma's art has touched hearts, evoking laughter, tears, and a deep sense of connection. Each stroke of the brush is a testament to Puma's growth, a reflection of the artist's soul that continues to evolve and inspire.
